More Info Surfacing on this 2,1 iPhone That's Been Detected.

Somewhere out there, there's several new iPhone's lurking in the San Fran Bay area. Or that's what Pinch Media claims to have proof of.

"the first time an application using Pinch Analytics was run by a ‘iPhone 2,1′ device occurred back in early October 2008;

applications using Pinch Analytics were run by ‘iPhone 2,1′ devices very sporadically until mid-December 2008, when the pace picked up slightly;

to date, a few dozen distinct ‘iPhone 2,1′ devices have run almost two dozen different applications using Pinch Analytics;

when ‘iPhone 2,1′ devices run applications using Pinch Analytics’ optional geolocation tracking, they’re almost exclusively located in the south San Francisco Bay Area;

while most of the sessions have been made from wifi connections, there’s been a few connections over AT&T’s network, so presumably this device handles both;

the applications that have been run by Pinch Analytics don’t share much in common, except for their size — they’re among the larger applications to use our stuff, with hundreds of thousands to millions of unique users. "

Sounds very interesting and if you ask me is very exciting news! Could we see a new iPhone possibly earlier than June (WWDC)? Super Bowl ad this Sunday perhaps?

"Apple uses these models numbers to distinguish between different hardware models. The original iPhone carries the model number of "iPhone 1,1" while the 3G iPhone is labeled "iPhone 1,2". These numbers do not change for simple storage increases and instead represent functionally different devices. Similarly, the iPod Touch was originally introduced as the "iPod 1,1" and the most recent hardware revision was labeled "iPod2,1". The 2,1 iPod Touch added a speaker, volume controls, microphone support and a much faster processor than the 1st generation model. This new model number can be found in the USBDeviceConfiguration.plist in an unencrypted firmware. "

"Rumors of the next generation iPhone point to the support of Multi-Core CPUs and possibly Multi-Core GPUs from Imagination Technologies. Apple has been building a team of chip engineers over the past year to participate in their own ARM processor designs that will presumably be used in future iPhones. Schiller previously outlined Apple's natural product timelines and acknowledged that June is the usual timeframe for major iPhone revisions, although storage increases could happen at any time. "

Hey! I'm fine with June!

Possibly 5 more months of rumors to come and I'm lovin' it!

Stay tuned.

High Quality Games Section Headed to App Store?

"Apple is planning to introduce a premium games section to its App Store where it will sell a range of iPhone games for $19.99, sources tell PocketGamer.biz.However, the initiative will only be open to a restricted number of large publishers, rather than the thousands of smaller developers currently selling their titles on the main App Store."

Sounds good to me! I'm still waiting to see Tiger Woods in action. Guess we may see some higher quality gaming demos at WWDC this year.

I wonder if some will require that you have the new iPhone rumored to be out around that time as well. The 3G will still be able to play most if not all the higher quality titles but some will run a lot smoother on the newer beefed up iPhone. Ahhh, wishful thinking I suppose.

Next Generation iPhone Discovered?!!!

Look, it's really late right now, this could be a 'typo' or it could just be complete BS that will be re-discovered tomorrow as a "found to in fact be poop".

Anyways, here's a couple of links to the story and I am VERY excited for any such morsel of info about a new iPhone as this.

So...hope it's true, hope it comes out very soon or AT LEAST by June (Steve's big comeback) and I hope it has all the features everyone's been hoping for including most of my wish list (see below).

Syncing over Wifi and 802.11n in Next iPhone?

I read an interesting article today at lunch and I hope it's true.

http://mygadgetlife.co.uk/start/?p=542#more-542

Does this mean wifi syncing for updates and everything else a possibility in the next version of iPhone? I hope so as that would make it truly a wireless device.

That's always kind of been a sore spot with me about the iPhone as it's on a ball and chain to your computer. Of course, everyone knows you need a computer to 'activate' the thing and get it up and running but shouldn't that be about it? Unless something REALLY bad were to happen for a restore, I don't see any reason you should be tied to a PC, Mac or any sort of laptop even. I mean, you can download music via the mobile version of itunes, you can download podcast, you can download apps and games, youtube for watching short clips and music videos, what else am I forgeting? I can understand maybe not downloading whole movies or seasons of tv shows but atleast have the option to update to the latest firmware over wifi. What if I'm on vacation for a week and day 1 Apple releases a new firmware or I need to snag something off the home computer that I forgot?

All I'm saying is that it would be nice to know that I can update, upgrade, whatever straight out of my pocket and onto a wifi hotspot and BAM! Got it! Cable's Shmable's...Meh!

Hey most every other REAL phone out there can get by without it. Guess that's the price ya pay for having the hottest phone out there! =)

Apple Welcomes New Device Hardware President.

"CUPERTINO, California—January 27, 2009—Apple® today announced that Mark Papermaster will be coming to Apple as senior vice president of Devices Hardware Engineering, reporting to Apple CEO Steve Jobs, on April 24. Papermaster, who comes to Apple from IBM, will lead Apple’s iPod® and iPhone™ hardware engineering teams. The litigation between IBM and Mark Papermaster has been resolved. "
So let's see here. People speculate on a new iPhone this year, most likely summer sometime around June. Palm Pre is announced and everyone looks back at Apple like "Whatcha gonna do?". Apple get's the Multi-Touch patent awarded to them most likely forcing the competition to "think again". Now this Papermaster fella, which will be President of Hardware for the ipod and iphone, is set to come on board late April.
Ummm, well....I.....thought.....uh....eeerm....yea =/
Did you catch that? The last part there? PRESIDENT OF HARDWARE FOR THE.....iPHONE. Does that mean Paper is gonna rush in and give us a new phone in as little as 2-3 months time? Maybe there is already something big in the works and he will just start by coming in and seeing it through to launch before he starts his new campaign.
Sigh
I WAS hoping to see a new iphone come June but the more these little leaks come through the less likely I'm thinking we will.
I wish Mr. Papermaster the best at his new job and hope to see great things come from his work.
Oh and you've got 2 months when you step foot in the door, so kick it into high gear noob!
"Papermaster has 25 years of product and technology experience, and was previously a vice president at IBM. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas, and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Vermont in 1988. Papermaster is active with the University of Texas where he is a member of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Advisory Council. "

New iPhone TV Ad. "Read"

Check out the latest iPhone commercial making it's rounds.

I've always loved the iPhone commercials and usually ask my wife to rewind the commercials when watching our favorite shows if she zooms through them too fast.

It's pretty funny when she let's out a *sigh* and exclaims "You've already seen that one like 3 times!"....well, yea! SO!

....I let her slide every now and then. ;P

Owned! Apple Awarded Multi-Touch Patent. Competition Beware!

Uh-Oh. Apple COO Tim Cook wasn't playin' around when he said "We're watching and will go after anybody that rips off our IP!" http://www.everythingicafe.com/articles/2009/1/21/apples-tim-cook-on-intellectual-property-palm-pre/

Looks as if a patent that Apple filed for back on April 11 of 2008 has finally been awarded to them on the 20th of this month!

Here's a copy of the patent. patent number 7,479,949

Patent goes a little something like this.

Touch screen device, method, and graphical user interface for determining commands by applying heuristics

A computer-implemented method for use in conjunction with a computing device with a touch screen display comprises: detecting one or more finger contacts with the touch screen display, applying one or more heuristics to the one or more finger contacts to determine a command for the device, and processing the command. The one or more heuristics comprise: a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a one-dimensional vertical screen scrolling command, a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a two-dimensional screen translation command, and a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a command to transition from displaying a respective item in a set of items to displaying a next item in the set of items.

I believe the original story broke and is credited here: http://news.worldofapple.com/archives/2009/01/26/apple-awarded-multi-touch-patent/

In any event, competition better be ready for war! *Cough*Pre*Cough*

This is just gonna get down low and dirty in the months ahead isn't it?

I love it!
